The P.S. Waverley returns to her Home Port for the summer
The P.S. Waverley has returned to her Home Port on The Clyde this month. The P.S. Waverley is the last sea-going passenger carrying paddle steam ship in the world. She is named after Scott's first novel. She was built in 1946 and has been magnificently restored and offers a wonderful day out sailing down the beautiful Clyde. During the Tall Ships weekend in Greenock she carried passengers to have a close up view of these magnificent sailing ships. It was a unique opportunity to view sail and steam in the one location. The Waverley is having financial difficulties due to the increasing cost of fuel and maintenance. This could be the last summer the Waverley sails. The good news is that The Waverley is to feature in a Hollywood blockbuster staring Robert Downey Jn and Jude Law in The second Sherlock Homes film A Game of Shadows. The ship's bosses are hopeful the high-profile appearance can help the struggling paddle steamer. Insert is a photo of the Waverley passing Mckinroy's Point - Gourock at sunset. People could hardly believe their eyes when they passed the Foresters House and saw Rod Stewart coming out of the house!!

We are now seeing the signs of Spring in Inverkip. The snowdrops are out in abundance. On the 13th of February, and by the kind permission of Lady Shaw Stewart, visitors were allowed to stroll through the Ardgowan Estate which was covered with a fantastic blanket of snowdrops.

The Fairlie Yacht Club held their bi-annual Burns night in the Chartroom Inverkip Marina on the 5th of February. This was the first event of their Golden Jubilee Year. Some of the members stayed the night at the Foresters House and according to them the night was a great success.
